New NCERT Syllabus & Textbooks By April 2023: Director Hrusikesh Senapaty

New Delhi: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) plans to develop a new national curriculum framework (NCF) by 2023 to address the gaps between the council’s expectations and present classroom learning.

NCERT director Hrusikesh Senapaty informed that the plan will be put in motion after the government implements the new National Education Policy (NEP). “This will provide us with the guidelines for developing the new syllabus and textbooks. The work will be completed by April 2023,” he said.

Senapaty rued that under the present classroom learning, high-scoring students fail to acquire skills to face life challenges. He, however, refused to blame textbooks for the problem and instead put the onus on the manner of teaching.

“The way lessons are transacted in the classroom often drives students to resort to various guidebooks. The concept of a conducive learning environment is still a pipe-dream since the teachers are busy transacting the lessons without acting as facilitators,” a report in Times of India quoted the NCERT director as saying.

“In an age where we are emphasising on students’ critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, students should be assigned different projects and activities where they engage in teamwork and share their interpersonal experiences,” he added.

Senapaty further said it was essential to develop 21st century learning skills among students. “These are the key to success in both competitive and board exams. They should not be spoon fed through guidebooks as a shortcut to success,” he added.
