New Recruitment Process For Soldiers Proposes Sweeping Changes; Check Details

New Delhi: The new recruitment process has proposed some radical changes. Under the Tour of Duty/Agneepath scheme, it has been proposed that 100 per cent of soldiers recruited would be released from service after four years, of which 25 per cent would be re-enlisted for full service.

The new recruitment scheme is expected to be announced any day now.

The Indian Army, which had suspended its recruitment drive for almost two years because of COVID-19, is likely to resume it soon.

The Tour of Duty scheme has proposed discharging from service 100 per cent recruits after four years. After roughly 30 days of their release, 25 per cent of them would be recalled and re-enlisted as soldiers with a fresh date of joining. The preceding four years will not be counted for fixation of pay and pension. A substantial sum of money is expected to be saved under the new recruitment rules.

There would be some exceptions for certain trades of soldiers in the three services because of the technical nature of their jobs.

No recruitment of soldiers has taken place in the military for nearly two years now, causing considerable anxiety among the youth.
