New Stars Of Odisha: Young Singers Who Stole The Show At Indian Idol

Bhubaneswar: After a wait of almost nine months, Indian Idol found its winner for season 12 in Pawandeep Rajan on Sunday. This stage has also seen some talented singers from Odisha, making a mark and winning hearts.

Chelsi Behura, a teenage girl from Cuttack, had made it to the Top 15 in Indian Idol 11. She received a Golden ticket in the show, which was then judged by Vishal Dadlani, Anu Malik and Neha Kakkar. After hearing her sing ‘Pareshaan’ from the film Ishaqzaade, Neha Kakkar said, “I am surprised that at such a young age you are singing so amazingly, I can see you being the next singing sensation of our country.”

From romantic notes in ‘Te Amo’ to a hint of subtle naughtiness in ‘Samundar Mein Nahake’, Biswajit Mohapatra had impressed judges and audience alike with his vocal skills in Indian Idol 10. He secured a place for himself in the Top 14 of the tenth edition of the popular singing reality show. A playback singer from Bhawanipatna, he was also the runner-up of ‘Voice of Odisha’ Season 2 in 2012.

Indian Idol Junior 2 winner Ananya Nanda is a power-packed performer. She has already rendered her voice for Padhoge Likhoge in the film MS Dhoni: The Untold Story for music director Amaal Mallik. Rearranging the words of the Hindi proverb ‘Padhoge likhoge banoge nawab, kheloge koodoge hoge kharab’, the song is a playful banter between two kids arguing about their choices. Ananya is also singing for Ollywood, our own Odia film industry.

Sohini Mishra was the top six finalists in Indian Idol Season 6. She began her career in Mumbai in 2012 with jingles and gradually moved to singing for TV shows. Sohini has sung in over 60 Odia films and music albums and also in a number of other languages, including Marathi and Malayalam. She had also lent her voice in Kadke Kamaal Ke, a comedy film starring Rajpal Yadav and Aryan Adhikari. She is an approved artiste (B High Grade) of All India Radio, Cuttack.
