Sambalpur: A couple from Chhattisgarh have alleged that their newborn baby was stolen by an unidentified woman from Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla of Odisha’s Sambalpur district.
According to sources, Mohan Das of Basan under Mahasamund district in Chhattisgarh had admitted his pregnant wife Gita Das in VIMSAR for delivery on November 24. Gita gave birth to a baby boy on Monday and were under treatment in the Gynaecology department of the hospital.
The couple found their baby missing on Tuesday afternoon and informed the hospital staff. Mohan along with the hospital staff searched for the nerwborn all over the campus but failed to find him. Later, the hospital authorities filed a complaint in this regard at Burla police station.
Gita told the police that an unknown woman had been coming to them and enquiring about their condition since she was admitted in the hospital. Gita suspected that the woman might have taken her baby while she was asleep.
On the basis of Gita’s statement, the police checked the CCTV footage in the hospital and found the unidentified woman carrying the baby out of the campus. The police have alerted all outposts on the border to check the vehicles and arrest the woman, the sources said.
