Balangir: A newborn boy was rescued after being allegedly sold by his mother in Odisha’s Blangir district following swift steps taken by the police and Child Welfare Committee.
As per sources, the baby was found with a woman in Titlagarh, who had allegedly purchased him from the mother when he was just three-day-old.
Officials said that the baby was born at the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir on April 6. The woman and the baby were reportedly discharged from the hospital two days later.
However, the baby was not taken home by his mother. Another woman from Titlagarh allegedly took the baby from his mother.
After receiving a complaint that the baby was allegedly sold, the Child Welfare Committee and District Child Protection Unit launched an investigation.
A probe was also launched by additional district magistrate (ADM) Pabitra Behera. The baby was rescued from Titlagarh and handed over to the Child Welfare Committee.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances in which the baby was handed over to the woman from Titlagarh and whether any transaction had taken place at the medical facility involving the sale of the newborn boy.
