Sonepur: The newborn girl, who was stolen by an unidentified woman from DHH, here on Saturday, was found from a roadside near here on Sunday.
The locals found the baby lying beside the Sonepur-Balangir road near Saradhapali village in the morning and informed the Pratappur police. Since the police had launched a search operation after the newborn’s father filed a complaint, they rushed to the spot.
The police brought the baby girl to the district headquarters hospital where her mother Santosini identified her. The newborn’s condition was stable, the hospital sources said.
Santosini, the wife of Gajendra Tandi of Sandha village under Birmaharajpur police limits, had given birth to the girl in DHH on Friday. As no bed was available in the maternity ward, the hospital authorities had provided a bed on the floor for Santosini to take rest with her newborn daughter.
On Saturday morning, while Santosini had gone to bathroom leaving her daughter in the care of her mother-in-law, a woman came to the ward and took Santosini’s daughter on some pretext and fled.
Later, Gajendra lodged a complaint at Sonepur police station after failing to find the unknown woman and his daughter despite a desperate search.
