According to sources, the girl student has lodged a complaint with the university’s sexual harassment cell following the incident which allegedly took place in the chamber of the senior professor. The incident reportedly took place on Aug 16.

University sources said that the internal complaint committee (ICC) has been asked to investigate into the allegation made against the professor.

The probe is underway and the committee will submit its report to the university authorities on Tuesday, they said.

While students of the university have expressed anger over the incident, a rights activist has moved the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking action on the matter. The Commission has acknowledged receipt of the complaint.

Stating that senior Economics Professor at Utkal University molested the student in his chamber on August 16, the petitioner said the university authorities have not taken any initiative to investigate or take action against the erring professor despite a complaint lodged by the girl.
