Bhubaneswar: The mercury soared to 40 degree Celsius and above at nine places in Odisha on Thursday, making it one of the hottest days this season.
Boudh recorded the highest of 40.8 degree Celsius followed by Bhubaneswar and Balangir at 40.4 degree Celsius, Sonepur (40.2 degree Celsius), Angul (40.1 degree Celsius) while Baripada, Titlagarh, Malkangiri and Nayagarh recorded 40 degrees Celsius.
The heatwave situation in the state is likely to worsen further with the IMD predicting the day temperature to remain 2 to 3 degrees Celsius and 3 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal during the next 4 to 5 days.
