NIT Rourkela Convocation: Rise In Number Of Female Graduating Students
Rourkela: A total of 1,988 students will receive their degrees at NIT Rourkela’s 21st annual convocation to be held at Dilip Tirkey Stadium here on January 20.
The Institute has seen a rise in the number of female students passing out in different streams. This year, as many as 457 female students are graduating from NIT Rourkela, which represents 23% of total graduating students.
Of the female students who are passing out this year, 173 are in Bachelor’s, 228 in Master’s and 56 in PhD programmes.
Like in previous years, the dress code at the convocation will highlight Odisha’s rich culture.
Male graduates will be dressed in full-sleeved Sambalpuri design kurtas made of cotton, while female students will wear Sambalpuri design cotton sarees.
Coal India Limited Chairman-cum-MD Polavarapu Mallikharjuna Prasad will be the Chief Guest, while NIT Rourkela Director Prof. K Umamaheshwar Rao will preside over the convocation ceremony.
Among the 1,988 students passing out, 17 are in B.Arch, 961 B.Tech, 38 Dual Degree (B.Tech and M.Tech), 54 integrated M.Sc (5 years), 168 M.Sc, 520 M.Tech, 3 M.Tech (by research), 21 MA, 39 MBA and 167 Ph.D.
There are 82 international students (including NRIs), comprising 66 males and 16 females. They are from Uganda, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Sudan, USA, Afghanistan and Bhutan.
Eight students will receive the Institute Gold Medal and five students will be presented Endowment Gold Medal. A total of 59 students will receive Branch Topper Medals.
