Bhubaneswar: Under the influence of cyclone ‘Nivar’, light to moderate rainfall activity are likely in some districts of Odisha during the next 24 hours, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department said on Thursday.
Nivar crossed Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts near Puducherry between 9.30 pm on Wednesday and 2.30 am this morning as a very severe cyclonic storm at an estimated wind speed of 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph.
It weakened into a severe cyclonic storm at 2.30 am over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and further weakened into a cyclonic storm and lay centred at 8.30 am on Thursday over north coastal Tamil Nadu.
The cyclonic storm would continue to move northwestwards and weaken further into a deep depression during the next 6 hours and into a depression in the subsequent 6 hours, the IMD said in a special bulletin.
Though there has been no direct impact of the cyclone in Odisha, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places in Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, at a few places over the districts of Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and isolated places over rest districts of Odisha during the next 24 hours, it added.
