Bhubaneswar: The Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar has received final permission from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to start postgraduate (PG) courses from academic session 2022-23, the Odisha Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) tweeted on Sunday.
“In a major boost to health sector in Odisha, NMC has given final permission to start post-graduate courses in PGIMER and Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar. MS/ MD courses will be started in six specialities with a total of 24 seats from current academic year,” the CMO tweeted.
According to a report by TOI, the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) of the NMC reviewed the assessors’ report regarding faculty, their experience, publication and other teaching facilities including infrastructure available at the Capital Hospital and PGIMER to begin MS (general surgery) course for the current academic year.
Recently, NMC also approved 100 seats each in the Government Medical College (GMC) in Sundargarh and Keonjhar Medical College and Hospital under the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo (MSCBD) University in Baripada town on August 19 and August 23 respectively.
The CMO further informed that the Odisha government will provide all infrastructural facilities in terms of teaching and non-teaching staff, buildings, equipment and hospital facilities as per NMC norms.
