Bhubaneswar: About 20 per cent of people in Odisha have not developed antibodies despite taking two doses of COVID vaccines.
Life Sciences (ILS) director Ajay Parida told the media on Saturday that this has come to light following genome sequencing by the institute.
He said the ILS here had conducted genome sequencing of 600 samples in August this year and identified 425 Delta variants and other variants of COVID-19. However, no new mutation was found.
He further said as genome sequencing has revealed that 20 per cent of people have not developed antibodies against COVID-19 despite taking two doses of vaccines, a study is underway to determine whether a third dose or a booster dose is required.
If there is a requirement, it will be studied whether the people would be given the vaccines of the same company they had taken earlier or they need the vaccines of other companies.
