Berhampur: In an attempt to make education more fun, the Ganjam district administration will be introducing ‘No School Bag Day’ programme for the students of Class I to V in all government schools on Saturdays.
Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange has directed the district Education Department to introduce this programme in schools from March 7.
Under this programme, the schools will conduct extra-curricular activities like yoga classes, cleaning the school premises, awareness on use of toilets, abstaining from use of plastic, plantation drive, story-telling sessions on eminent personalities and general knowledge tests on Saturdays.
“It is the responsibility of teachers to involve all students in the programme and evaluate how they benefit from the initiative,” the Collector said.
Initially, the programme will be introduced in 20 schools under each block of the district. Each block education officer has been assigned the task of selecting the schools. Depending on the success of the programme, it will be later implemented in the remaining schools in the district, sources said.
