Bhubaneswar: In a major relief measure for households, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo has directed that no domestic electricity consumers will face power disconnections due to unpaid bills until the arrival of the monsoon.
The Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the Energy portfolio, emphasised that distribution companies (DISCOMs) must not carry out any unscheduled power cut
s on account of non-payment of bills by domestic household consumers. Power supply interruptions will be permitted only for essential repair and maintenance work, and all such scheduled outages must be announced well in advance through SMS alerts and public address systems to keep consumers informed.
Singh Deo has instructed all concerned departments, agencies, and DISCOMs to immediately sensitise their staff about the directive and put in place a strong monitoring mechanism to ensure strict compliance.
The move aims to provide much-needed relief to ordinary households during the scorching summer months.
Additional Chief Secretary, Energy, has been tasked with overseeing the implementation of these instructions and submitting a detailed action report to the government for review.
