New Delhi: The ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir, which was implemented for the month of Ramzan, will not be extended. The Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Sunday.

“Government will continue with its endeavour to create an environment free of terror and violence in Jammu and Kashmir,” a Home Ministry release read.

The security forces have now been directed to take actions as per previous ways to prevent infiltration by terrorists and violence and killings.

“It is important that all sections of peace-loving people come together to isolate the terrorists and motivate those who have been misguided to return to the path of peace,” it added.

The security forces were barred from conducting offensive strikes, in view of the holy month of Ramzan. The decision was taken on May 17.

However, despite a peaceful gesture by India, there were at least two major ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

Praising the security forces, the Ministry said, “It was expected that everyone will cooperate in ensuring the success of this initiative. While the security forces have displayed exemplary restraint during this period, the terrorists have continued with their attacks, on civilians and security forces, resulting in deaths and injuries.”
