‘No Food Wasted, No One Hungry’ Plan To Feed Needy In Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: No one will stay hungry and no food will be wasted in the city.

As per plans, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC)  will serve leftover food to needy people.

Notably, Bhubaneswar wastes quintals of quality food in its restaurants, social gatherings and from households, etc.

The BMC will distribute these food with the help of NGOs at 10 places in the city. The NGOs will collect the leftover food and distribute it twice in a day.

At the lunch hour, the food will be distributed at private orphanages, shelter homes, old age homes, SUM Hospital, Master Canteen bus stand, and KIMS Hospital among other places.

At night, the food will be distributed at Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Baramunda Bus stand, Capital Hospital, SUM Hospital, orphanages, KIIMS Hospital, etc.

The BMC informed that the NGOs that fulfill the guidelines will get responsibility of food distribution for two years. They will contact the hotels, marriage parties, event management companies and hostels to collect leftover food. They will also maintain a register to record the food donors’ names, photos and mobile numbers etc.

The BMC will guide the NGOs in distributing food. It was targeted to distribute food to 9,000 people in a month.

The food quality will be checked at the time of collection and steps will also be taken for the it’s storage, said sources.
