‘No Impact’: Cyclone Biparjoy Completely Detached Itself From Monsoonal Flow, Says IMD

New Delhi: Cyclone Biparjoy will have no impact on the progress of monsoon in India.

The very severe cyclonic storm is likely to make landfall in Gujarat and adjoining Pakistani coasts between 4 pm and 8 pm on June 15, but India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said Cyclone Biparjoy has “completely detached” itself from the monsoonal flow and seasonal rainfall system, PTI reported.

“Had Cyclone Biparjoy moved north-westwards towards Oman, it would have affected the monsoonal flow,” he said.

South-west monsoon reached Indian mainland late this year, in Kerala on May 8.

It advanced in the next four days into some parts of Karnataka, Konkan, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, northwest Bay of Bengal, even as heatwave conditions prevailed in several other parts of the country.

Now, monsoon is set to advance further from June 18.
