Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday maintained that the heat wave condition in Odisha will continue as the low pressure formed over southeast Bay of Bengal will have no impact on the state.

“A low-pressure area lying over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining south Andaman Sea, along with the associated cyclonic circulation, is likely to become more marked over the central parts of Andaman Sea and neighbourhood during next 24 hours and likely to concentrate into a depression over the same region during the subsequent 24 hours. However, the system will have no impact on Odisha,” the IMD said in a mid-day bulletin.

Asked about the heat wave condition in the state, director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar HR Biswas said that although the IMD has issued severe heat wave warning for 21 districts for two days till April 1, there will be a brief respite from the heat wave as the east-west trough stretching from East Uttar Pradesh to west Assam will trigger thunderstorm and lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the 12 districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda and Ganjam in the next 72 hours.

Though maximum day temperature in these 12 districts will fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius for two days till April 4 due to rain and thundershower, it will shoot up by 4-6 degrees Celsius during the subsequent two days from April 5.
