Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has stated that there is no move to seal the houses whose owners have not paid the holding tax.
In a clarification on the reports that the BMC has directed to seal the house and business establishments of the holding tax defaulters, deputy commissioner Srimanta Mishra said the no such notice has been issued.
He said the BMC has written a letter to the zonal deputy commissioners and ward officers to collect the tax to meet the annual target. It is a routine letter, he added.
It may be noted that BMC hiked the holding tax upto 17.5% of the bench mark value of the land in 2019 following a huge revenue loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic last financial year.
