Bhubaneswar: There will be a decrease in the intensity of rainfall in Odisha in the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.

Duty officer of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Laxmikanta Giri said heavy spells are unlikely in the state till August 20 as a monsoon trough formed over Rajasthan will have no effect on Odisha.

“There is a possibility of light rainfall and Nor’wester (Kala Baisakhi) at one or two places in the south and coastal districts including Mayurbhanj on August 17 and 18. Besides, the model indicator suggests that there is no possibility of formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal in the next five days,” he added.

Giri further said that the state till August 15 had an average deficit rainfall of only 2 per cent. “While the average rainfall in the state during the period is 750 mm, the state has received 737 mm rainfall,” he added.
