Bhubaneswar: Contradicting its earlier forecast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday denied any possibility of formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
It had earlier said that a low-pressure area was likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal by June 19 and predicted heavy rainfall in the north and interior north Odisha.
Talking to the media here, duty officer of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Madan Mohan Das said Odisha will still witness heavy rainfall as the south-west monsoon is active in the state.
He said that there will be prolonged rainfall in Odisha under the influence of a monsoon trough stretching from Rajasthan to the west of Uttar Pradesh.
“Going by the modular study, there will be isolated heavy rainfall at some places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj in the interior and north Odisha on Thursday and Friday,” he added.
