Dhaka: Hindu monk and former ISKCON priest Chinmoy Krishna Das, who had been arrested in Bangladesh, failed to get any bail on Tuesday as the hearing in his case was postponed as there was no lawyer to represent him, reports claimed.
Chinmoy Krishna Das’s next bail hearing has been scheduled for January 2, 2025, the IANS reported. According to reports, ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson Radharamn Das had claimed that Advocate Ramen Roy, who had defended Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in a legal case in Bangladesh, was brutally attacked there. Roy has been battling for his life in a hospital.
Das, who served as a spokesperson for Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, was arrested at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for his alleged involvement in a sedition case.
Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, known as Sri Chinmay Krishna Prabhu within the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) community, is a key religious leader in Bangladesh. He had also held the position of divisional organising secretary for ISKCON in Chattogram.
Radharamn alleged that Roy was attacked as he was defending Prabhu in court. The ISCKON monk claimed that a group of Islamists ransacked Roy’s home.
“Please pray for Advocate Ramen Roy. His only ‘fault’ was defending Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in court. Islamists ransacked his home and brutally attacked him, leaving him in the ICU, fighting for his life. #SaveBangladeshiHindus #FreeChinmoyKrishnaPrabhu,” Radharamn posted on X along with a picture of Roy in ICU.
Meanwhile, India on Monday described as “deeply regrettable” an incident of breach of the premises of the Bangladesh consulate in Agartala. A group of people protesting the arrest of Das had breached the premises of the consulate.
The MEA highlighted that consular properties should not be targeted under any circumstances. The Indian government is beefing up security at the Bangladeshi missions in India.
In Agartala, thousands of people had taken out a massive demonstration near the Bangladeshi mission protesting the arrest of Das.
