Bhubaneswar: In a relief for bus owners, the Odisha government on Friday exempted them from paying road tax for three months from April to June.
It is also applicable for other passenger vehicles.
“Commerce & Transport Department in exercise of powers conferred under Section 15(1) of the Odisha Motor Vehicle Taxation (OMVT) Act, 1975 has been pleased to exempt the tax & additional tax of Stage/Contract Carriages in the State for 3(three) months i.e. April, May and June, 2020,” an official notification said.
Earlier, the All Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association had refused to run buses, demanding exemption on road tax having suffered losses because of COVID-19 lockdown.
However, they agreed to resume the service on May 28 after the government gave them an assurance to fulfil this demand.
