Bhubanewar: Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik has asked the district collectors to be in regular contact with the organisations run by the Missionaries of Charity in Odisha.
The collectors have been directed to ensure that no inmate of these organisations suffer, especially from food security and health related distress. Wherever needed, funds from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund can be utilised for this purpose, the Chief Minister told the collectors.
It may be mentioned here that Missionaries of Charity is running many leprosy homes and orphanages in Odisha.
The Chief Minister’s directive comes after West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee claimed on Monday that all bank accounts of the Mother Teresa-founded Missionaries of Charity have been frozen by the Centre.
She stated that 22,000 patients and employees of the charitable group “have been left without food and medicines” due to the move.
However, soon after the Centre stated that MHA did not freeze any accounts of MoC. State Bank of India (SBI) has informed that MoC itself sent a request to SBI to freeze its accounts, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a statement.
