New Delhi: Even as Donald Trump keeps claiming credit for the May 10 ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, and Opposition parties led by Congress continue to seek the truth from the Centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the issue in Parliament on Tuesday.

“I stand here to present India’s side before this House. Those who don’t see India’s side, I stand here to show them a mirror,” Modi said in an obvious reference to doubts and allegations brought by Congress about Operation Sindoor, which India’s Armed forces launched in the early hours of May 7 to avenge the deadly April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

Modi was speaking in Lok Sabha as part of the ongoing debate on Operation Sindoor, which was kicked off by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday.

“No leader of any country asked India to stop the operation,” Modi said, without naming the US President.

Chat with JD Vance

Modi did mention about his conversation with J D Vance on May 9, when the US Vice-President told him that Pakistan is planning a huge military retaliation against India.

“I made clear that if Pakistan attacks, India will retaliate with stronger military measures,” Modi said.

“No country in the world has stopped India from any action in its defence against terror,” the PM informed members of the House.

During the speeches by Rajnath, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Home Minister Amit Shah, Opposition members continued to raise their voice, demanding a clear statement on Trump’s claims and the loss suffered by Indian military aircraft.

Modi said that Pakistan realised India will conduct a huge operation after the Pahalgam massacre, in which 26 innocent men were shot dead, many of them in front of their family members.

“The cruel incident that happened in Pahalgam on 22nd April, the way terrorists shot innocent people after asking them about their religion, was the height of cruelty. This was a well-thought-out attempt to throw India into the fire of violence. This was a conspiracy to spread riots in India. Today I thank the countrymen that the country foiled that conspiracy with unity,” Modi said.

“I was abroad on 22nd April. I returned immediately. And immediately after coming back, I called a meeting and we gave clear instructions that a befitting reply has to be given to terrorism and this is our national resolve. The army was given a free hand to act. And it was also said that the army should decide when, where, how and in what manner. All these things were clearly said in that meeting.”

‘Sleepless nights’

Modi went on, “We are proud that terrorists were punished, and it was such a punishment that the terrorist masterminds have sleepless nights even to this day.”

“Indian army destroyed the terror sites of Pakistan.. India proved that Pakistan’s nuclear threats were a lie,” he said.

“India conducted the operation as planned but Pakistan could not do anything,” Modi said.

Modi claimed that Pakistan is still recovering from the hit it took from Indian forces.

“India displayed its technological capabilities during the conflict. We destroyed Pakistan’s multiple airbases and they are still under ICU,” Modi stated, highlighting the use of ‘Made in India’ weapons during the four-day military conflict, which ended on May 10.

“Whole world realised the power of India and its self-reliance as it destroyed the drones and missiles of Pakistan… The whole world witnessed the range of India’s capabilities,” Modi boasted.

“I express my gratitude to the people of India for support during Operation Sindoor,” Modi said.

He reiterated the resolutions taken by the government following the Pahalgam attack. “India will respond on its terms and time against the future terror attacks and activities. No nuclear blackmail will be tolerated. We do not differentiate between masterminds of terror and state actors,” the PM Modi said.

Congress hauled up

Slamming Congress’ attitude, Modi said: “Opposing the armed forces, negativity for armed forces has been the old attitude of Congress…Pull up all of Pakistan’s statements and the statements of those who are opposing us here, they are exactly the same with full stop and comma…The country is surprised that Congress has given a clean chit to Pakistan. They dare to ask for proof that the Pahalgam attackers were from Pakistan.”
