Bengaluru: Actor Prakash Raj has landed in legal trouble after a Bengaluru court issued a non-bailable warrant against him in connection with an alleged multiple voter IDs case.
The actor failed to appear before the court despite repeated summons, prompting the judge to order stricter action.
The 48th Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court in Bengaluru observed that the actor had remained absent and failed to respond to the court’s directives, reported ANI.
Advocate Dileep Kumar had lodged a complaint at Bengaluru’s Halasuru Gate Police Station in 2019, alleging that Prakash was registered as a voter in four states — Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana — at the same time, India Today reported.
Under Election Commission of India (ECI) rules, an individual is allowed to be enrolled as a voter in only one constituency.
Prakash has denied the allegations, maintaining that he is registered to vote only in Tamil Nadu.
His legal team is now expected to move a higher court to seek a stay on the non-bailable warrant or request urgent bail.
The actor’s name also surfaced recently after C.N. Chinnaiah levelled allegations of multiple murders, rapes and burials in the temple town of Dharmasthala, and mentioned him in a writ petition filed before Karnataka High Court.
Speaking to the media last week, Prakash said that activist Girish Mattannavar had approached him, stating that Chinnaiah wished to speak with him.
“As a citizen, what should I do? I got information from a fellow about whom everybody is speculating. Immediately, I contacted SIT chief Pronab Mohanty,” Prakash was quoted as saying by PTI.
The writ petition, filed before the high court, alleged that Chinnaiah had been used as part of a larger conspiracy involving the use of funds to defame Dharmasthala.
In the petition, he also referred to a phone conversation he claimed to have had with Prakash.
“So I am coming here and saying, yes, he spoke to me. And I immediately gave it to the SIT chief, which you can cross-check with him. This is where it ends. That’s my responsibility and accountability,” said the actor.
On the work front, Prakash was last seen in the Tamil film ‘Kaalidas 2’ in Tamil and Telugu films ‘Seetha Payanam’, ‘S Saraswati’ and ‘Dacoit: A Love Story’.
He will be next seen in ‘Drishyam 3’ in Hindi, ‘Varanasi’ and ‘Spirit’ in Telugu, and ‘Jana Nayagan’ in Tamil.
