Normalcy Returns To Sambalpur Court In Odisha As Lawyers Resume Work
Sambalpur: Lawyers of the Sambalpur Bar Association in Odisha resumed work on Tuesday after a stalemate of 22 days.
The lawyers have been protesting following the arrest of several lawyers in connection with the vandalism in the Sambalpur district court complex on December 12.
On December 12, a mob ransacked the court premises demanding the establishment of a high court bench in Sambalpur. They vandalised the court as well as the chamber of the district judge. When the matter was brought to its notice, the Supreme Court directed the Odisha police to take stringent action against those involved in the vandalism.
Around 40 people, including 30 lawyers, were arrested in this connection. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC restricting the bar association members from meetings and rallies near the court complex have been imposed since December 12.
