Bhubaneswar: Rain and thunderstorm triggered by nor’wester may continue in several parts of Odisha, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till 1.15 pm on Tuesday.

The India Meteorological Department has issued orange warning of light to moderate thunderstorm with gusty wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph, lightning and light to moderate rain for some parts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Balangir and Koraput in 3 hours.

Light to moderate thunderstorm with lightning and light to moderate rain may occur in Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Cuttack (including Cuttack City), Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Dhenkanal, Japur, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kenderapada, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Baragarh, Sundargarh, Bhadrak, and Mayurbhanj districts.

People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

On Monday, nor’wester rain had wreaked havoc in Bhubaneswar, uprooting trees leading to road blockades at many places. Following which, Fire Service, ODRAF and ODFC personnel were pressed into service to clear the blockades.

According the weather agency, conditions are becoming favourable for thunderstorm activity with lightning, hail, heavy rain, gusty surface wind and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall in Odisha due to likely interaction of middle dry westerly with lower level moisture-laden winds from Bay of Bengal. It has predicted similar weather conditions for next 3 days and a fall in the day temperature by 4-6 degree Celsius during this period.
