Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm activity is likely to continue in Odisha for three more days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.
On May 1, thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak districts. Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Koraput and Malkangiri.
The weather agency has issued an orange warning for next two days during with thunderstorm, lightning, gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph, hailstorm and heavy rainfall may occur in Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Keonjhar and Balasore districts.
It has cautioned about likely damage standing crops, banana trees, loose/unsecured/vulnerable structures, kutcha houses/walls and huts due to strong winds. People have been advised to keep watch on weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect themselves from lightning. Farmers are also advised to use hail nets to protect vegetables and crops from hail.
The IMD further stated that the day temperature is likely to rise by 2-4 degree Celsius across the state after 4 days.
