Cuttack: Renowned writer, storyteller and translator Nabakishore Raj passed away in Cuttack following a prolonged illness. He was 80.
Raj, who was suffering from age-related ailments for quite some time, breathed his last on Thursday night, family sources said.
His last rites were performed at the Swargadwara in Puri on Friday evening.
Recipient of several awards, he was honoured with the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award in 2012 for his novel ‘Chayapurush’ based on the theory of reincarnation.
Apart from this, his novels ‘Subarna Kalas’, ‘Mayanadi’, ‘Vitarag’, ‘Kalagni’ and ‘Poornamasi’ were had also earned appreciation from the readers. He was also known for translating ‘Bharatar Sadhak’ and other spiritual books.
Rah had joined the government service in 1970 and retired in 2004 as Special Secretary in the Finance Department after demonstrating his dedication to duty.
