Now, Access Aadhaar Services Through SMS; Here Are Details
New Delhi: Aadhaar services can now be accessed through a simple SMS.
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which handles Aadhaar, has thus made it convenient and simpler for those who don’t have internet connectivity.
Anyone who wishes to activate access to a particular service has to send an SMS from his/her registered mobile number to helpline number 1947. To avail SMS locking and unlocking features, one has to generate a one-time password (OTP).
How to avail of Aadhaar services through SMS:
* Virtual ID generation — 1. In write message box of mobile phone, write GVID (space) and last four digits of Aadhaar number registered with that phone number. Send the message to 1947.
- Type RVID (space) and then last four digits of the Aadhaar number.
* Locking Aadhaar — This can be done by using Aadhaar number or Virtual ID. In case of Aadhaar number, send first SMS writing GETOTP (space) followed by last four digits of your Aadhaar card. Send a second SMS writing ENABLEBIOLOCK (space) followed by last four Aadhaar digits (space) followed by OTP number received through first SMS.
In case of Virtual ID, send the first message writing GETOTP (space) followed by last six digits of VID. Then, send the second message writing ENABLEBIOLOCK (space) followed by last six VID digits (space) followed by six-digit OTP.
In case of multiple Aadhaar numbers being linked to one mobile number, or if last four digits of Aadhaar card are same for at least two people, the second SMS, if using the Aadhaar number, is to be sent writing ENABLEBIOLOCK (space) followed by last eight digits of Aadhaar (space) followed by six-digit OTP; for the VID method, send SMS writing ENABLEBIOLOCK (space) followed by last 10 digits of VID (space) followed by six-digit OTP.
For unlocking Aadhaar card via SMS, the same procedure has to be followed.
