New York: You may not agree with his decisions all the time, but Elon Musk can’t be kept away from the headlines for too long.
In a bid to challenge the creators of ChatGPT, the billionaire entrepreneur has launched an artificial intelligence (AI) company of his own called xAI.
Explaining the rationale behind his decision, Musk cited concerns about OpenAI’s “woke” ideology.
Through xAI, Musk aims to pioneer a fresh frontier in AI research and “understand the true nature of the universe.”
I’m excited to share we have officially launched https://t.co/Igf5EyYCrO (@xai), my AI company!
Our mission is to understand the universe.
Can’t wait for Zuck to hit copy and paste on this too! pic.twitter.com/cyQGjXfnhH

Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, as well as the owner of Twitter, has brought on board a team of distinguished AI researchers, handpicked from OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and Tesla.
xAI will operate independently from Twitter’s parent company X Corp, but will maintain a close collaborative relationship with both X Corp and Tesla.
According to a company statement, the organisation aims to caution against hasty advancements in AI and recently spearheaded an open letter to global leaders, underscoring the existential risks associated with this technology, comparable to pandemics and nuclear warfare.
Musk has time and again expressed concerns about potential perils of AI, referring to it as humanity’s greatest existential threat.
It remains to be seen how xAI develops and grows under AI-wary Musk.
