Now Government Contemplates Import Curbs On Over 370 Chinese Items
New Delhi: India which has been on a banning spree of Chinese apps is believed to be contemplating import curbs on the categories of good that are largely imported from China.
Consumer electronics, steel bars, steel tubes, toys, telecom items, paper, heavy machinery, glass and rubber articles are likely to be brought under mandatory Indian Standards (IS) regime by 2021, according to a report in The Times of India.
The report said, quoting director general of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Pramod Kumar Tiwari, that majority of the 371 items listed are products from China. “We are framing mandatory standards for these items and to improve the enforcement including at government-owned ports like Kandla, JNPT and Cochin,” Tiwari was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
The director general added that the government will place a timeline for notification on the same by December 2020 for most products and the rest by March 2021.
