New Delhi: A month after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led Gen-Z agitation ended at Jantar Mantar after the Union government agreed to their demands over NEET paper leak, the Centre has to deal with another potential movement which also originated online.
Thousands of people gathered at Jantar Mantar a week ago under the banner of ‘Reservation Hatao Andolan’ (RHA), demanding reservation based on economic criteria rather than caste.
Not taking the new agitation lightly, Union Health minister JP Nadda – who had held meetings with CJP representatives along with fellow-minister Jitendra Singh — was once again deputed to meet members of the ‘Reservation Hatao Andolan’ on Thursday.
Sharing details about the meeting, Nadda said in a post on X that cordial discussions were held with three representatives of RHA.
“Following the movement that took place at Jantar Mantar on 21 August, cordial discussions were held, as per the pre-determined schedule, with Harsh Dubey, Ran Bahadur Singh Chauhan, and Mrityunjay Pathak, members of the team. In this connection, we will meet again soon,” Nadda wrote.
On August 21, a call was given by ‘Reservation Hatao Andolan’, an Instagram-based page with over 5.6 million followers, to join a protest at Jantar Mantar.
Despite police making it clear that permission was not given for protesters to assemble at Jantar Mantar, the crowd kept growing there only through afternoon and evening.
The protesters with banners, posters and flags raised slogans against the existing reservation system.
There was heavy security deployment, with police detaining several demonstrators who were later released.
