Mumbai: Maharashtra minister and Shiv Sena leader Gulabrao Patil entered the hall of shame through his misogynist comment on actor-politician Hema Malini on Sunday. Patil ended up comparing the roads in his constituency in Jalgaon district to Hema Malini’s cheeks.
The video of Patil’s comments went viral on social media while addressing an election campaign for the Bodhwad Nagar Panchayat polls in the district.
Patil asked his opponents during the speech to visit his constituency to see how smooth the roads were.
“Those who have been MLAs for 30 years should come to my constituency and see the roads. If they are not like Hema Malini’s cheeks, then I will resign,” the water supply and sanitation minister was quoted as saying in the video. He reportedly targeted former BJP leader and Jalgaon MLA for several years, Eknath Khadse.
The minister’s below-par comment has woken up the women’s commission which sought an apology from Patil.
“The commission has taken note of the comment. If the minister doesn’t tender an apology, he will have to face legal action,” the chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women, Rupali Chakankar, said via a video statement reported by news agency PTI.
The Shiv Sena leader’s remark barely a couple of days after a Congress MLA advised women to “enjoy rape” while standing in the Karnataka state assembly.
