Now, Pay Up To Rs 25,000 For Traffic Violations

The Motor Vehicles Amendment Act 2019 has been amended to include new and revised fines that will be effective from September 1.

The new rules are intended to make roads safer and curb corruption by Regional Transport Offices (RTOs).

The fines are as follows:

  • Driving without insurance – Rs 2,000
  • Driving without helmets – Rs 1,000 & 3-months suspension of licence
  • Not giving way to ambulance and emergency vehicles – Rs 10,000
  • Driving without seat-belt – Rs 1,000
  • Use of mobile phone while driving – Rs 1,000-5,000
  • Drunk driving – Rs 10,000
  • Driving without licence – Rs 5,000
  • Driving despite disqualification – Rs 10,000
  • Taxi aggregators violating driving licences – Up to Rs 1 lakh
  • Over speeding – Rs 1,000 for LMVs & Rs 2,000 for MPVs.
  • Overloading of vehicles – Rs 20,000
  • Guardian or owner of vehicle of underage drivers will be held responsible. The fine will be Rs 25,000 along with three years in jail and the registration will be cancelled.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has also announced that the process of obtaining a driving license will be completely computerised for everybody.
