Bhubaneswar: The Odisha police will soon be starting a ‘dedicated’ special cell for better supervision of cases relating to crime against women, including rape, murder, acid attack and dowry torture.
The cell will function under the Crime Branch (CB). An additional superintendent of police (ASP) or a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) will head the cell, which will use latest technological tools like DNA evidence, cyber forensics and mobile forensics will be used to solve sexual assault cases, sources said.
“The cell will monitor all Red Flag category cases (serious offence against women) registered in police station across the state,” said DGP B K Sharma.
It will ensure prompt investigation of rape cases and submit chargesheet in two months, a police officer said, adding cases related to acid attack will also be taken up.
The cell will also coordinate with SPs for payment of compensation under the Victim Compensation Scheme 2017, the sources added.
