New Delhi: It seems protests are the flavour of the season.
The massive nationwide agitation orchestrated by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) made global headlines, while protests over the Centre’s implementation of ethanol-blended E20 petrol are gaining ground.
But can you guess who will be protesting next at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar?
Retired Delhi Police officers. Yes, you heard that right.
They will be raising their voices against attacks on police personnel during the CJP and Gen-Z’s one-and-a-half-month protest at Jantar Mantar.
Delhi Police Federation, a body of retired cops, has written to Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar seeking permission for a one-day protest at Jantar Mantar on July 31.
“A large number of police and paramilitary force officers and personnel sustained injuries while performing their lawful duties at and around Jantar Mantar on July 20,” the federation stated in its application.
The proposed sit-in demonstration — from 11 am to 5 pm on July 31 – will be conducted in a completely peaceful and non-violent manner by law-abiding citizens who are retired Delhi Police personnel, the application mentioned.
The idea is to show solidarity with the police force and highlight sacrifices made by security personnel while maintaining law and order.
Delhi Police claimed that more than 100 of their personnel were injured after some anti-social elements allegedly infiltrated the CJP protest and attacked them during the march to Parliament.
