Bhubaneswar: Dr Arun Kumar Praharaj, a chattered accountant in Bahrain, has come to the help of a man’s family in Bhadrak district after he died while working in the Gulf country.
Debashis Sahoo of Kisamat village under Chandabali block in Bhadrak district had gone to Bahrain to work as a labourer to help his family economically after his mother died of cancer. The family had run into heavy debt for treatment of his mother and was unable to pay it off.
While working for a Bahrain company, Debashis died in suffocation in a drain on November 16 last year. With the help of Dr Praharaj, Debashis’ family could get his body after 10 days. Dr Praharaj had also given Rs 6 lakh from his personal account to the family of Debashis.
After five months, Dr Praharaj got the dues of Debashis amounting to Rs 15 lakh cleared from the company where he was working. From his busy schedule, he could get time to visit Works Department and Indian Embassy in Bahrain to get the amount which was given to Debashis’ father Basant Sahu.
Dr Praharaj, who is also the founder chairperson of Bahrain Odia Society, also played an important role for the Odia workers in the Gulf country during COVID-19 pandemic last year.
Besides doing the philanthropic works, Dr Praharaj contributed towards organising Rath Yatra for the first time in Bahrain with the help of Iskcon temple there.
