Nuapada: Emotions ran high when Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi was addressing a rally for Nuapada by-election on Thursday as BJP candidate Jay Dholakia broke down and burst into tears on stage.
The scene, captured on camera, showed tears rolling down Dholakia’s face on the dais at the public meeting held in Komna. BJP Yuva Morcha president Abhilash Panda was seen wiping the tears. Despite attempts to compose himself, Dholakia appeared visibly moved throughout the Chief Minister’s speech.
After holding a massive a roadshow in Komana, the Chief Minister addressed the large public meeting where he mounted a blistering counterattack on the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and its president Naveen Patnaik.
Hitting back at Naveen’s traitor remark, Majhi said calling the son of the Rajendra Dholakia family dishonest and traitor is not proper. “Does it suit Naveen Patnaik to call Jay ‘dishonest’? The BJD had lured the BJP candidate with promises of a ministerial post, and then fielded him from Kakatpur,” Majhi said.
Alleging that the word ‘traitor’ seems to have been scripted for Naveen Patnaik to read, he claimed that the former CM might not have even fully understood its meaning, and it was spoken through him by someone else.
Majhi urged voters in Nuapada to judge for themselves who has truly acted dishonestly, pointing out that the BJD candidate was brought from a neighbouring district rather than selected locally.
The CM also accused the BJD of betraying senior leaders such as Bijay Mohapatra and Nalini Mohanty, and asserted that the people of Nuapada would give their verdict in the by-election.
As the Chief Minister spoke, Dholakia’s emotional reaction drew the attention of both party leaders and the crowd, symbolizing the intensity and personal stakes surrounding the Nuapada by-election.
