New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Delhi Police arrested a dietician for the alleged murder of a 52-year-old doctor, who hailed from Odisha, in his house at Chattarpur Enclave in the national capital, on Thursday.
The deceased identified as Dr Sambit Mohanty, a pathologist by profession, was a native of Cuttack. He lived alone in the house in South Delhi.
According to reports, the incident allegedly took place when 23-year-old accused Sunny Sharma, a nutritionist, had gone to the doctor’s house to prepare a diet plan. Sharma claimed that Mohanty tried to touch him inappropriately during their conversation, following which he strangled him and then slit his throat with a knife and a pair of scissors from the victim’s kitchen in a fit of rage, PTI reported, quoting police sources.
The doctor’s body was discovered around noon on Thursday when the doctor’s driver arrived to pick him up, according to TOI.
DCP South Ankit Chauhan said that the police received a PCR call regarding a body lying in a house in South Delhi’s Chattarpur Enclave area at 11.55 am. Mohanty had a deep cut wound on his neck and “blood was scattered on the floor, indicating a violent altercation”, he said.
Police checked the doctor’s call details and found that his last conversation was with the accused. He was tracked to Maidangarhi and nabbed.
Chauhan added that Sharma murdered the doctor the day before.
