Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Tuesday announced an extension of Nyaya Sanhita Exhibition at the Idco Exhibition Ground in Bhubaneswar by two days, allowing it to continue till March 12.

The exhibition, organised by Odisha Police, was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on March 6. It highlights the implementation of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), which came into effect on July 1, 2024, replacing the outdated colonial laws. These reforms aim to modernise the justice system, emphasizing victim rights, faster investigations, and scientific evidence.

During a tour of the exhibition, the CM praised the efforts to educate the public on India’s revamped criminal justice system. He also commended a street play on fictional incidents to depict how the system works. “The new laws have ended the colonial-era framework in India’s crime control structure and brought about changes aligned with independent India’s vision,” he said.

Majhi highlighted significant progress since the implementation of the laws, noting that Odisha’s conviction rate for those found guilty had risen by 87.6% by the end of 2025 while attributing it to improvements across investigation, trial, and judicial processes. He further mentioned 166% increase in zero FIR registrations in 2025, enabling easier access to justice.

He further emphasised on efforts to strengthen policing through National Forensic Science University and a Central Forensic Science Laboratory, for which foundation stones were laid recently, along with MoUs with IIT Bhubaneswar for advanced technology integration and the National Defence University for training in modern skills.
