OAS Toppers Set Example, Get Married With Invite To Orphans In Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: Setting an example for others, two OAS toppers tied the knots in a simple ceremony hosting a feast for orphan children in Bhubaneswar.
The OAS officers of 2020 batch, Ananya Shrusti Satpathy and Debrabrata Kar, got married by exchanging garlands at the sub-registrar’s office in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. Their family members and relatives were present at the simple marriage.
In order to send across a message to the people, who spend huge amount in lavish marriages, they extended invite to orphan children to a feast organised on the occasion.
Speaking on their preference for simple marriage, Debabrata Kar, who had secured 4th rank in OAS examination, said it was a deliberate attempt against gender discrimination in the society. “Marriage is a social function. But it has assumed a commercial shape over the years. In the world of showmanship, families compete among themselves in making it an expensive function. It has a spiral effect on the couples not wanting girl child,” he said.
Anaya, ranked third in the batch, said the marriage is an occasion to start a new life with the blessings of the parents and elders. “I never wanted a marriage that would make our families go through the hardship of arranging all the money for a gran marriage. We just want their blessings for our better future,” she said.
