Octogenarian Woman Dies After Being Rescued From 20Ft Borewell In Odisha’s Sonepur

Sonepur: The elderly woman, who was rescued from a 20 feet deep abandoned borewell near Kainphula village in Odisha’s Sonepur following an intense operation by Fire Service personnel and an ODRAF team, was declared received dead at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here on Tuesday.

According to sources, her pulse rate was low and she was immediately shifted to the DHH in an ambulance accompanied by a doctor. She was also given oxygen in the ambulance as her condition deteriorated.

Sonepur SP Amresh Kumar Panda, who was monitoring the rescue operation, earlier told the media that it was a pinpointed operation, but her condition was critical.

The victim, 80-year-old Dukhi Negi, had gone to a daughter’s place on Monday. Her family went looking for her this morning when she did not return home and found that she had fallen into the borewell while collecting cane grass to make brooms. They then informed the Fire Department, which launched an rescue operation. Oxygen was pumped into the borewell to help the woman breath and a parallel hole was dug from a distance of around 10 feet to reach her. An ODRAF team also joined the operation later.

Sources further said that it is being suspected that she fell into the borewell around 5 pm on Monday and spent the entire night there, which worsened her condition, before being detected by her family.
