Chennai:
Team India bowled out Australia for 199 in their ICC ODI World Cup opener at MA Chidambaram S
tadium here on Sunday.
Opting to bat first after Pat Cummins won the toss, Australia were rocked in the third over when Jasprit Bumrah had in-form opener Mitchell Marsh brilliantly caught at slip by Virat Kohli.
David Warner (41) and Steve Smith (46) steadied the innings with a 69-run partnership before the Indian spinners turned on the magic on a slowish pitch offering turn.
Ravindra Jadeja was the best among the trio with figures of 3/28 in 10 overs, Kuldeep Yadav bagged 2/42 and Ravichandran Ashwin 1/34.
Bumrah troubled the Aussies batsmen too, registering figures of 2/35 in 10 overs, while Mohammed Siraj took 1.
India left out experienced pacer Mohammed Shami, while Shubman Gill was ruled out as he’s yet to recover from dengue.
