Cuttack: A court in Odisha’s Cuttack on Thursday sentenced actor Lipan Sahu to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, tele actress Lakshmipriya Behera alias Nikita seven years ago.
The Additional District Judge- 3, Cuttack, convicted Lipan Sahu and awarded him life term in the case, while acquitting his parents.
As per the case records, Nikita had tied the nuptial knot with Lipan in September 2017. Nikita (32) suffered severe head injuries after a fall from the roof of her house in Mahanadi Vihar area of Cuttack city in January 2019.
The tele actress succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in CDA area on January 5, 2019.
Following a complaint lodged by Nikita’s father Sanatan Beheram, the Chauliaganj police had registered a case under Sections 302, 498 (A), 306 and 34 of the IPC and launched an investigation.
Lipan was subsequently arrested on charges of attacking and pushing Nikita to death over marital dispute.
The actress had acted in several TV serials, including ‘ACP Nikita’ and Odia movies such as ‘Tu Mo Akhira Tara’, ‘Chori Chori Mana Chori’, and ‘Mathare Dei Pata Odhani’.
