Odia Cancer Patient Dies At Mumbai Airport
Bhubaneswar: A 51-year-old cancer patient from Odisha collapsed and died at Mumbai airport.
The deceased was identified as Kasturi Mishra, a resident of Kansbahal in Sundargarh district. She had been suffering from cervical cancer and gone to Mumbai for treatment at Tata Memorial Hospital. She was accompanied by her husband, Khirod Chandra Mishra.
According to reports, Kasturi suddenly collapsed while waiting at Mumbai airport for a flight back to Bhubaneswar. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but died on the way.
The husband was not allowed to board the aircraft with her body without a proper NOC and death certificate.
Following this, the family sent an SOS to the convenor of the state-run Mo Paribar initiative, Arup Patnaik, in Bhubaneswar. Patnaik in turn contacted Mumbai police and Konark Cancer Foundation in that city and sought their intervention.
Finally, Tata Memorial Hospital issued a death certificate and Konark Cancer Foundation personnel arranged for the other necessary documents for flying the body back home. It is scheduled to arrive at Bhubaneswar airport on Saturday.
Sources said following instructions from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the woman’s body will be taken in an ambulance to her native place in Kandhamal district for the final rites.
