Bhubaneswar: For the first time ever, the Paris Fashion Week 2022 will feature an Indian streetwear label. Called ‘Rising Among,’ it is the brainchild of Odia fashion designer Amruta Behera along with Riya Khanna.
According to the designers, ‘Rising Among’ was born out of the true desire to start a conversation, to bring forth space for individuals to wear their minds. The idea of this homegrown Indian brand was conceptualised, executed, and launched amidst the pandemic in 2020 after the founders graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York. “We have aimed to create a platform for global streetwear in India where individuals can get a free pass to speak, live, and wear whatever they want,” said the designers.
Amruta is the daughter of two eminent Odias, the late Subhakant Behera, who served as a diplomat in Russia and the well-known Odissi dancer Rajashree Chintak Behera, Director Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Embassy of India in China.
‘Rising Among’ aesthetic targets reworked, utilitarian and functional silhouettes while displaying a high street fashion vibe. The focus of the clothing is on ‘Made to Rewear.’ The designers have frequently used the term ‘Reworked’ to describe their apparel as they love experimenting with fabric textures, upcycling garments fabrics and trims while bringing out the utility and functionality of clothing for the wearer to play with.
For the upcoming Paris Fashion Week 2022, ‘Rising Among’ will be curating a lot of different kinds of content ranging from Behind the Scenes, Fittings, a photoshoot in Paris, designer interviews, runway pictures, and show videos.
