World Premiere Of Odia Filmmaker Anupam Patnaik’s ‘Pratikshya’ At Washington Film Festival
Bhubaneswar: After being selected to be screened at the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Odia filmmaker Anupam Patnaik’s first feature film, ‘Pratikshya’ will now have a world premiere at the 11th Annual DC South Asian Film Festival on November 5.
The movie will hit theatres on December 2 in Odisha.
The son of eminent Odia producer and director late Amiya Patnaik, Anupam’s film has been inspired by a short story written by Sarala Puraskar-winning author Gaurahari Das and some true incidents, which have been shot at real locations in Bhubaneswar. No studio or set was hired for the filming of the movie — under the Amiya Patnaik Productions banner — which stars Dipanwit Dashmohapatra, Choudhury Jayprakash Das, Barsha Patnaik, Sreela Tripathy, Roopambika Nayak, Susil Mishra, Abakash Mishra, and Sidhant Mohapatra in a very special role.
‘This film is about an unemployed graduate who faces the dilemma of securing a government job and saving his father after his family meets a medical crisis. It is a very relatable film that has the essence of Bhubaneswar. Every youth will personally feel the storyline,” Anupam told Odisha Bytes.
Notably, ‘Pratikshya’ was also selected to be screened at the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) from November 20 to 28.
“It is an extremely proud moment for me and my team. Pratikshya is a movie we made with a lot of passion and with a team of dreamy debutants, the passion for filmmaking and telling our stories to the world got ignited like no other. This week has been one of the best ones so far. First, our trailer launch which was well accepted, then the news of being selected in IFFI and now DCSAFF, I believe with Pratikshya Odia movies have arrived. Truly and well on the global stage” director, and producer of the film Anupam Patnaik said.
The screenplay and dialogues have been written by Roshan Bisoi. The cinematography mantle was held by ace cinematographer Deepak Kumar. The young composer duo Ankesh Anand and Ashish Pradhan have handled the background score and the music while Indie musician Bivash Rath has composed one song. The feature film consists of three songs sung by Ashish Pradhan, Bivash Rath, Humane Sagar, and Biswajit Mohapatra. Abhishek Tripathy took care of the sound design while the lyrics have been penned by Durga Madhab Panda, Priyaranjan Sahoo, and Sumit Panda. The sync sound has been done by Chandrasekhar Sharma. Barsha Patnaik was at the helm of things for the production design and costume design. Pratikshya marks the last feature film of veteran editor late Deven Mishra, who had poured his heart and soul into the making.
He added, “We hope Pratikshya ends the wait for Odia audiences around the world and serves as the light at the end of the tunnel showing the true potential of Odia stories.”
