London: Odia filmmaker and photographer Soumya Jyoti Pratihari is hosting his maiden solo photography exhibition at the Dominion Centre in London’s Southall.
The exhibition titled ‘Everyone Needs Someone’, which runs until August 10, sheds light on the growing issue of social isolation and loneliness in modern society.
The exhibition, a collaboration between Soumya and the Punjabi Theatre Academy, London, showcases street documentary photography captured across the capital city of the UK.
The collection has been curated by Tajinder Singh Sandra.
Speaking at the inauguration, Councillor John Martin of the London Borough of Ealing emphasised the need for such socially conscious initiatives, and said that such projects can bring meaningful change to communities.
London-based Odia doctor Dr Sahadev Swain said, “Isolation and loneliness is a silent pandemic, with health risks comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Soumya’s work is a powerful reminder for society to act before it’s too late.”
Soumya, who recently completed a documentary on renowned London-based Odia painter Prafulla Mohanti, is the first Odia photographer to hold an exhibition at the Dominion Centre.
